What was your inspiration?

The lightness imbued in these objects by perforating them with pattern was my intention from the start, whether lightening the heft of the material by removing a portion, or creating a passage for light to travel through. My projects evolve abundantly throughout the design process until they best represent the initial intention. And so, whether by coincidence or fate, the shapes ascribed to the resulting patterns are like symbols or letters - like “l” and like “y” and like “t”: lyt.

I’m pleased to consider these objects playing with the many meanings of the word light, and furthermore lighting a path; for those that will use them, and those that are touched by the entire botanist™ series – to give to others, and do more.

Why is it important for you to give back?

Save the Children creates lasting positive change in the lives of children in need. After 75 years in over 50 countries they continue to light the way. As a new father, I’m now able to experience the cycle of interdependence and joy between parent and child, which makes me acutely aware of those in need. My own parents have been passionate about giving, and have donated to Save the Children® in particular for years. Being able to give back using the passion of my own livelihood makes it all the more satisfying.
